Pico de gallo, spicy salsas and Frida’s Casa Azul. 🇲🇽

The hilarious Natalia ran our Mexican cooking class. At the local market she taught us how to sniff and squeeze our way to the find the best chillies for the job! Tony was offered a taste from a stall only selling 2 foot square slabs of perfect pork crackling. We made 4 salsas including the deliciously fresh but spicy pico de gallo (meaning roosters beak!) from scratch, and delicious cheese quesadillas so all we needed was a bottle of tequila to wash them down!! The Frida Kahlo museum is housed in her Casa Azul in Coyoacán so booking our tickets in advance meant we didn’t have to queue. Bathed in a beautiful blue light from the indigo walls, we soaked in the atmosphere created by Frida and Diego – crazy paintings, sculptures and her traditional Mexican skirts, corsets and shoes adapted due to her polio and injuries from a terrible car accident, all add to the surreal atmosphere. Some visitors even dressed up for the occasion!
