Too much to see, do, eat, experience, smell and taste in this gigantic city – but 2 things we had to do before we left:
The Palacio de Belles Artes – the most incredible building of Art Deco gorgeousness! Every single thing is designed so beautifully – from the sign on the toilet door to the unique Tiffany glass curtain on the theatre’s stage. We wandered round in awe at the building and its contents. We attended the talk on the Tiffany curtain which was all in Spanish – but I think we clapped at the right times! Fantastic exhibitions of different portrayals of the Mexican moustachioed hero Zapata, to the short lived but avant-garde magazine from the 1920s Amauta.
So from one cultural extreme to another – Luche Libre! A night of hilarity and cheering! Pre-planned theatrical wrestling – ridiculous costumes and masks, which obviously the audience also wear – and in true pantomime style – booing for the baddies and cheering for the baddies! Oh yes we did!!
You two write so well and your pictures are great….. I think you should change careers to travel journalists!!
