We are the ONLY people in Ollantaytambo who are NOT going to Machu Picchu πŸ€ͺ – will we regret it??? πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ͺ

In every guide book it states that the only reason people go to Ollantaytambo is to get the train to M.P. We went because B&S recommended it and it’s the only continuously inhabited Inca village with dramatic ruins. Reasons enough to go. The drive from Cusco involved avoiding several rockslides on the steep winding road, but the driver kept whistling so ….. Then the issue of a potentially lost bag meant getting to know the police officers of Ollantaytambo – but fortunately it was a false alarmπŸ€ͺ! Our Airbnb has the most beautiful garden with humming birds and A friendly cat – a haven of peace after our travels. An early morning vertical trek up to the Inca grain stores was quite challenging but gave us an incredible view of all the ancient sites in the town including the Inca irrigation channels still running down the narrow cobbled, ankle turning streets. We also learned how to make chocolate, Peruvian hot spicy chocolate and cocoa tea at the Cocoa Museum. Many of the women and children still wear the traditional brightly coloured embroidered outfits in the town. With all this excitement who needs Machu Picchu!
