Skhirat – the vibrant seaside town where the King of Morocco and our lovely friends Taoufiq and Karen ( from Leeds) have beachside residences! We chose to stay with the latter obviously – where we were treated as royalty! Beach traders kept us fed and entertained – from the spiced coffee man ( coffee with pepper, ginger, cinnamon and over 20 other spices) to fresh doughnuts and hand made baskets. The fishing boats at the heart of the town, bring the locals to the beach and the market to barter over the next catch – the fishermen wearing their traditional straw hats decorated with coloured pom-poms! The lack of tourists made us feel we had experienced the real Morocco!
