Inspiring visit to a township school – Eagles Nest School. πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

The school was set up by a friend of my sisters in a township outside of CT so were really privileged to meet the amazing children and teachers. She has to fight the govt every step of the way to get planning permission for extra classrooms (shipping containers) for extra land, for resources etc. And yet she and the teachers are incredibly dedicated to ensure a great education for these students. The school has a great reputation within the township and parents queue with their application forms when admission opens. They recruit teachers only from the township – many of them start as TAs and study to be qualified teachers whilst working. The first photo is Amanda and Amanda – my lovely namesake! The students were asked where they thought we came from and answers varied from India, Egypt, France, China and the USA!! They look for sponsorship from local companies to provide meals for the children who come to school hungry as many are orphans and live with grandparents who have no money. Www.eagles-nest.org.za
