Cape Town, Architecture, and Apartheid. ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

The boat trip to Robben Island with my family – was pretty hairy, BIG waves and staff with plenty of sick bags. We had a fantastic guide on our bus which took us round the island – learned about the horrendous “pencil test” which determined if you were “black or coloured”- place a pencil in your hair and shake your head to see if the pencil stays or drops out. Fascinating stories of prisoners who escaped and of course Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu. A sobering but informative visit. There’s not many buildings which literally take your breath away but the Silo Art Gallery in Cape Town does just that. An incredible space – with beautiful roof top views of table mountain and an innovative re-use of an existing grain silo.
